Earlier Report Observations

The cotton seeds market in the MENA region contracted sharply from 2018 to 2020, with total volume falling by 53% from 807 thousand tons to 382 thousand tons. This downturn reversed from 2021, leading to a recovery peak of 591 thousand tons in 2022, before a modest correction to 545 thousand tons in 2023.

The market's decline was primarily due to a steep reduction in imports, which dropped by 73% from 506 thousand tons in 2018 to 137 thousand tons in 2020. During the same period, domestic production fell by 19%, but it later expanded strongly, increasing by 70% between 2020 and 2022 to reach 418 thousand tons.

By 2023, the market had stabilized at a volume significantly below its 2018 level, with domestic production covering a larger portion of regional demand. Imports, while recovering from their 2020 low, remained less than half of their previous volume.
