From 2018 to 2019, the cassava market volume in Burkina Faso expanded from 20 289 t to 21 917 t. This growth coincided with a major project supporting cassava cultivation in Houet, Kénédougou, and Comoé provinces, involving an investment of 2.444 billion F CFA to supply millions of cuttings, alongside initiatives to improve packaging for local processors and develop derived products like attiéké, which stimulated demand.

The market then contracted sharply to 17 537 t by 2021. This decline was primarily due to persistent transportation and availability constraints that limited year-round supply, compounded by a security crisis and poor rainfall, which disrupted agricultural production and import flows.

In the subsequent period, the market stabilized around 17 000 t. Industry structuring efforts, including the formation of cooperatives and projects to strengthen local product valorization, helped sustain domestic production, offsetting the continued low levels of imports.
