The market volume for alliaceous vegetables in Burkina Faso fluctuated between 2018 and 2023, starting at 20 650 tons in 2018, then dropping to 12 258 tons in 2020 before recovering to 26 934 tons in 2023. The sharp increase in 2023 was driven by the Presidential Initiative for Agricultural Production 2023–2024, which aimed to boost output of cereals and vegetables across over 11 000 hectares. This direct government intervention mobilized military personnel, volunteers, and internally displaced persons to expand cultivated area, leading to higher domestic production and market supply.

Throughout the period, the market saw a steady push toward organic and agroecological practices, with the introduction of SPG organic certification by CNABio in 2018 and continued promotion of biopesticides. Although these measures primarily improved product quality and sustainability, they also supported farmer organization and direct sales channels. By 2021, short supply chains for local fruits and vegetables had developed in Bobo‑Dioulasso, enabling producers to sell directly and meet growing urban demand, which contributed to the market's recovery that year.

In 2024, the government created two state‑owned companies, Faso Guulgo and Faso Kosam, to strengthen agricultural production and marketing. Tax law changes affecting imports of fruit and vegetable juice concentrates for the beverage industry were enacted, while plastic packaging regulations were tightened. Despite security challenges in the Sahel region, vegetable production in the area improved, yielding over 6 000 tons during the 2023‑2024 dry season.
