Earlier Report Observations

From 2018 to 2023, the market volume for fresh carrots and turnips in South-eastern Asia experienced notable fluctuations. After a contraction to 877 thousand tonnes in 2019, demand recovered and expanded steadily, peaking at 1 134 thousand tonnes in 2022. The following year brought a moderation, with the market settling at 1 037 thousand tonnes in 2023.

The import volume surged to 469 thousand tonnes in 2024, reflecting stronger regional consumption. This increase aligns with broader market drivers such as rising urban incomes and heightened health consciousness among consumers, which boosted demand for fresh vegetables. Simultaneously, the rapid growth of modern retail and distribution channels improved product accessibility across the region.

Strategic collaborations and investments by key suppliers, including players like Groupe Vegco and Suttind Seeds, helped maintain supply amid global logistical challenges. Furthermore, the digitalization of supply chains and a pronounced preference for 'better-for-you' foods among younger consumers provided additional support for market activity.
