The Uzbek market for fresh carrots and turnips grew strongly from 2 119 thousand tons in 2018 to 3 841 thousand tons in 2022, largely driven by active state support for production and export. This period was also marked by the modernization of agriculture and the introduction of new technologies. In 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic affected global trade, which contributed to a moderation in the market's growth pace that year, though it remained positive.

In 2023, the market volume contracted to 3 387 thousand tons. This decline occurred despite the expansion of distribution channels through the entry of new e-commerce players, which helped support sales. Improved logistics and trade relations also led to growth in exports to Russia and other CIS countries during the year.

For 2024, while full-year production data is not available, export volumes rose significantly to 99 thousand tons. This increase was supported by a surge in demand from Russia, partly due to export restrictions on carrots from Kazakhstan. Additionally, rising domestic retail turnover and legislative changes aimed at improving conditions for the agricultural sector continued to influence the market.

Uzbekistan's production of carrots and turnips grew for the second year in a row. In 2020, the country produced 2 876 thousand tonnes, marking a modest increase of 3.8% compared to the previous year. Over the period from 2017 to 2020, production rose by 27.8%, which translates to an average annual growth rate of 8.5%. The lowest production volume was recorded in 2018 at 2 185 thousand tonnes, with the largest decline that year of 2.9%. In contrast, the biggest increase occurred in 2019, with a jump of 26.7%.

The market showed significant fluctuations during this period. Exports reached their lowest point in 2017 and peaked in 2018, with a 2.3-fold difference between these years. The largest decline occurred in 2019, dropping by 17.7%, while the biggest increase was in 2018, surging by 130.3%.

Between 2017 and 2020, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan accounted for 91.6% of Uzbekistan's total carrot and turnip exports by volume, with the remaining share spread across other destinations, each contributing smaller amounts.
