The market volume for fresh carrots and turnips in Greece entered a pronounced and sustained decline from 2018 to 2023. Starting from 29 843 t in 2018, the total available supply for domestic consumption fell sharply to just 8 649 t by 2023, representing a contraction of over 70% across the five-year period.

This downturn coincided with a substantial shift in trade flows and domestic output. National production dropped from 30 920 t to 17 010 t, while exports more than doubled from 5 567 t to 10 689 t. Imports also fell by nearly half, decreasing from 4 491 t to 2 328 t during the same timeframe.

The market's descent accelerated notably towards the end of the period, with the most significant single-year drop of 4 915 t occurring in 2023. By that year, the domestic market had shrunk to less than one-third of its 2018 size, reflecting a fundamental reshaping of the sector.
