The barley market in Albania experienced significant fluctuations in volume between 2018 and 2023. Starting at 15 178 t in 2018, consumption dropped to 13 866 t the following year. A strong recovery followed, lifting the market to 18 987 t in 2020 and further to 20 587 t in 2021. After a moderate contraction to 19 014 t in 2022, volume surged dramatically to reach 29 210 t in 2023.

These movements were reflected in domestic output and import flows. Local production fell from 9 655 t in 2018 to 7 942 t in 2019 before embarking on a sustained growth path, more than doubling to 21 179 t by 2023. Imports showed high variability, peaking at 6 342 t in 2020, falling to zero in 2022, and then recovering to 8 031 t in 2023.

However, production rebounded sharply in 2020, reaching 12 645 tonnes - a dramatic 59.2% increase compared to 2019.
