In 2018 and 2019, Brazil's banana market volume grew, reaching 6.8 million metric tons in 2019. Production in São Paulo state, which supplies over half of the domestic market, remained stable at around 1.1 million tons annually, supporting national output. Despite challenges such as low productivity of some varieties and pressure from diseases and pests, the industry was supported by research efforts and the strong role of cooperatives in the supply chain.

After this peak, market volume dipped to 6.5 million metric tons in 2020 but then recovered, reaching 6.8 million tons in 2022 and stabilizing at 6.8 million tons in 2023. This period saw a gradual increase in overall production, which exceeded 6.9 million tons annually from 2022 onward, indicating resilient domestic consumption.
