From 2018 to 2023, the Philippine fresh aubergine market, equivalent to domestic production due to negligible trade, showed variable output. After reaching a peak of 249.9 thousand tonnes in 2019, production dipped to 242.7 thousand tonnes in 2020 before a partial recovery in the following years.

The stabilization of production around 244.0 thousand tonnes in 2021 coincided with the adoption of modern farming techniques that enabled local farms to cultivate high-value European aubergine varieties for niche hotel and restaurant markets. This period also saw the continued effect of the Food Safety Act (Republic Act No. 10611), which strengthened regulatory frameworks for market access and consumer protection of fresh produce.

Output saw a modest increase to 248.2 thousand tonnes in 2022 but fell again to 238.6 thousand tonnes in 2023, reflecting the typical supply and demand fluctuations in the fresh vegetable sector.
