The Central Asian aubergine market started at 166 thousand tonnes in 2018, with production largely seasonal. A surge to 277 thousand tonnes in 2019 was driven by increased agricultural investment and expanding exports from Kazakhstan. New aubergine varieties and recovering supply chains supported further growth to 341 thousand tonnes in 2021. Geopolitical tensions and sanctions in 2022 caused a slight dip to 332 thousand tonnes, though exports from Kazakhstan remained strong. By 2023, stabilized logistics and continued export growth helped the market reach 359 thousand tonnes.

In 2024, the market is marked by sustained export expansion from Kazakhstan and a growing focus on greenhouse production to ensure year-round availability.
