In Africa, aubergine production reached 2 883 thousand tonnes in 2020, marking a slight decrease of 1.0% from the previous year. Production hit its lowest point in 2018 at 2 698 thousand tonnes, followed by a peak in 2019 with 2 912 thousand tonnes. After two years of decline, aubergine production in Africa rebounded in value terms. In 2020, the output was valued at 4 824 million US dollars, up 19.4% from 2019. From 2017 to 2020, the export structure for aubergines in kind was highly fragmented. Belarus accounted for 22.8% of exports, the United Kingdom for 5.8%, and France for 5.1%, together making up just 33.7% of total flows, with no single partner emerging as clearly dominant.

From 2017 to 2020, the main markets for aubergine exports in value terms were Belarus, with 39.6% of exports, the United Kingdom at 10.7%, and Saudi Arabia at 5.4%. Together, these three countries accounted for 55.7% of total export flows.
