The market volume for apricots in Tunisia grew from 33 238 tons in 2018 to 36 067 tons in 2020. Production reached 38 000 tons in 2019, but the sector faced overproduction and sales difficulties, leading to the destruction of part of the harvest in Kairouan. Farmers called for export authorization to Libya and Algeria to reduce surpluses, while a lack of local processing units limited value-addition opportunities.

Market volume declined to 34 548 tons in 2021 and further to 31 234 tons in 2022. The drop in 2021 was influenced by high retail prices, which sparked consumer outrage and boycott calls, reducing consumption. Issues with fruit quality and maturity also hampered sales.

A recovery occurred in 2023, with market volume rising to 33 092 tons, coinciding with broader income growth in the agri-food sector and increased agricultural exports. In 2024, challenges persisted, including lower wholesale prices due to higher supply and a 6% drop in apricot exports, reflecting ongoing market access difficulties.

Following two years of growth, Tunisia's apricot exports experienced a decline. In 2020, exports amounted to 1 933 tonnes, representing a sharp drop of 31.7% compared to 2019.
