From 2018 to 2022, the market for fresh apples, pears and quinces in Tajikistan remained relatively stable, with volumes fluctuating between 236 thousand tons and 244 thousand tons. The gradual recovery after a slight dip in 2019 was supported by the ongoing development of intensive orchards featuring new varieties of apples, pears and peaches, which enhanced productivity and fruit quality. Breeders worked on early-ripening apple varieties with high transportability, boosting export potential and encouraging production.

In 2023, however, market volume dropped sharply to 227 thousand tons. This decline occurred despite continued efforts to improve varieties and expand export capabilities, as highlighted in previous years.

Throughout the period, state-owned and private companies were actively involved in production and trade, focusing on increasing the transportability and storability of new cultivars. The private sector's dominance in retail distribution ensured efficient market access for fresh fruit.

In 2020, Tajikistan produced 239.7 thousand tons of apples, pears, and quinces, marking a slight year-over-year increase of 1.5%. Production peaked in 2018 at 242.0 thousand tons, with the largest annual increase of 2.7% recorded that year. The most significant decline occurred in 2019, when production fell by 2.4%.

From 2017 to 2020, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, and Russia were the top buyers of apples, pears, and quinces from Tajikistan, accounting for 30.4%, 27.4%, and 24.2% of exports in kind, respectively. Together, these three countries comprised 82.0% of total exports in kind during this period.
