Earlier Report Observations

The Iranian fresh apple market volume showed significant fluctuations between 2018 and 2023, ranging from 1 267 thousand tons to 1 782 thousand tons. After a stable period around 1 500 thousand tons in 2018-2019, the market contracted in 2020 before surging to a peak in 2021. This was followed by a sharp drop in 2022 and a partial recovery in 2023.

These movements were primarily driven by changes in domestic production and export levels, as imports remained negligible. Production expanded notably in 2021, exceeding 2 700 thousand tons, but fell back in subsequent years. Concurrently, apple exports from Iran grew steadily until 2021, absorbing a larger share of output, before declining in 2022 and 2023 which supported higher domestic availability.
