Turkey’s Hazelnut Export Volume Falls 36% as Revenue Remains Above $2.5 Billion
Turkey exported 197,085 tonnes of hazelnuts in the 2025-2026 season, down 36%, while revenue declined just 2% to $2.51 billion. Higher unit values cushioned exporters, but the sharp reduction in available volume tightened conditions for buyers in major European and Asian markets.
Shipment decline outpaces revenue loss
Turkey’s hazelnut exports fell sharply by volume in the 2025-2026 season, but elevated unit values limited the decline in foreign-currency earnings. Data from the Black Sea Hazelnut and Hazelnut Products Exporters’ Association, reported by Para Durumu and Dünya, show that the country shipped 197,085 tonnes between September 1, 2025, and August 31, 2026. Those sales generated $2,509,526,039.
In the previous season, Turkey exported 309,064 tonnes worth $2,558,540,904, according to Dünya. The latest result therefore represented a reduction of 111,979 tonnes, or 36%, in volume. Revenue fell by $49,014,865, equivalent to only 2%. The contrast indicates a substantial increase in the average value of exported hazelnuts, allowing the sector to keep receipts above $2.5 billion despite shipping more than one-third less product.
Calendar-year data show stronger values
The January-August figures reinforce that pattern. Haberler.com reported that Turkey exported 134,000 tonnes worth $1,731,492,000 during the first eight months of 2026, compared with 174,000 tonnes and $1,457,354,000 in the same period of 2025. Volume consequently declined 23%, while value increased 19%. Turkey supplied 109 countries during the 2026 period, with Germany, Italy, France, Poland and China ranking as the five largest destinations.
Haberler.com gave slightly different totals for the full 12-month export season: 197,544 tonnes and $2.512 billion, representing declines of 36% in volume and 1% in value. By comparison, the figures cited by Para Durumu and Dünya were 197,085 tonnes and $2,509,526,039, with revenue down 2%. The sources agree on the central market trend: a steep contraction in shipments was largely offset by higher export values per tonne.
Trabzon records an even steeper volume contraction
Trabzon, Turkey’s leading hazelnut-exporting province, reflected the same price-volume divergence. Its exports in January-August 2026 reached 37,071 tonnes worth $575,749,000, Haberler.com reported. In the corresponding 2025 period, the province shipped 51,317 tonnes valued at $451,391,000. Export volume dropped 28%, but earnings rose by the same percentage. Trabzon accounted for 33.25% of Turkey’s hazelnut exports during the first eight months of 2026.
Across the full season, Trabzon exported 45,226 tonnes with a value of $674,432,000. Compared with the previous season, its volume fell 49% and revenue declined 13%. For processors and importers in Germany, Italy, France, Poland and China, Turkey’s lower shipment availability implies greater exposure to elevated raw-material costs and tighter procurement. For Turkish exporters, stronger unit returns protected revenue, but the smaller physical volume limited the amount of product available for sale and increased the importance of crop size in the next marketing season.
