ECOWAS has seen wood in the rough production rise for the third year in a row. In 2020, the region produced 148.0 million tonnes, marking a modest increase of 1.5% compared to the previous year. Over the period from 2017 to 2020, production grew by 3.1%, with an average annual growth rate of 1.0%.

Exports wood in the rough from ECOWAS

Exports reached their lowest point in 2018 at 49.3 thousand tonnes, then surged to a peak of 362.3 thousand tonnes in 2020, representing a 7.4-fold increase between these years. In 2020, exports showed a substantial gain of 27.2% from the year before. The highest import volume was recorded in 2018 at 40.9 thousand tonnes. The largest decline happened in 2019, dropping by 30.2%, while the most significant increase was in 2018, rising by 46.3%.
