From 2018 to 2021, the Honduran market for wheat bran, sharps and residues contracted by 26%, falling from 42 101 metric tons to 31 200 metric tons. This decline coincided with a reduction in domestic production from 28 908 metric tons to 27 504 metric tons and a sharp drop in imports from 13 284 metric tons to 5 209 metric tons over the same period.

The market rebounded in 2022, reaching 39 908 metric tons, and continued to grow in 2023 to 43 697 metric tons, a 40% increase from the 2021 low. This recovery was driven by a surge in imports, which rose to 15 001 metric tons in 2022 and further to 17 554 metric tons in 2023, while production stabilized around 26 500 metric tons.
