GCC's production of wheat bran, sharps, and residues declined after two years of growth. In 2019, production reached its peak at 644.8 thousand tons, but by 2020 it had fallen to 628.0 thousand tons, representing a 2.6% decrease from the previous year. Over the period from 2017 to 2020, overall production increased by 9.3%, which translates to an average annual growth rate of 3.0%. The most significant year-on-year increase occurred in 2019, when production surged by 10.4%.

Exports wheat bran, sharps and residues from GCC

Market performance showed noticeable fluctuations during this period. In 2019, exports hit their lowest point at 59.2 thousand tons, but by 2020 they had rebounded sharply to 221.7 thousand tons, marking a substantial 274.6% increase compared to the previous year. From 2017 to 2020, Vietnam, Yemen, and Bangladesh remained the primary markets for GCC's exports of wheat bran, sharps, and residues in volume terms. Vietnam accounted for 22.2% of exports, Yemen for 3.7%, and Bangladesh for 1.4%. Together, these three countries represented 27.3% of total export flows.

During the 2017–2020 period, Vietnam, Yemen, and Bangladesh were the principal buyers of GCC's wheat bran, sharps, and residues in value terms. Vietnam contributed 12.1% of export value, Yemen 2.4%, and Bangladesh 0.9%. Collectively, these three markets accounted for 15.4% of total export value.

The partner structure for imports in volume terms was fragmented from 2017 to 2020. Tanzania accounted for 16.7% of imports, Kenya for 16.0%, and Sudan for 15.1%. Together, these three countries represented 47.8% of total import flows, with no single country holding a dominant share.

The market exhibited an unstable trend throughout the timeframe. In 2017, import value bottomed out, while it peaked in 2018, with a two-fold difference between these years.
