Between 2018 and 2023, the wheat bran market in Central Asia showed a pattern of fluctuations, with the total market volume moving between 2.1 million and 2.3 million tons. After an initial drop from 2.26 million tons in 2018 to 2.17 million tons in 2019, the market stabilized and grew slightly over the next two years, reaching 2.21 million tons in 2021.

A more pronounced contraction occurred in 2022, pulling the market volume down to 2.12 million tons. This was followed by a strong recovery in 2023, when the market expanded by 4% to reach 2.21 million tons, its highest level since 2018. This rebound was supported by a significant increase in domestic production, which rose to 2.43 million tons, alongside a substantial rise in both imports and exports.

From 2017 to 2020, China, Russia, and Iran were the main buyers of wheat bran, sharps and residues from Central Asia. China accounted for 32.7% of exports in volume, Russia for 6.8%, and Iran for 3.0%. Together, these three countries represented 42.4% of total exports in kind.
