Earlier Report Observations

Between 2018 and 2019, pepper production in Asia rose from 595.8 thousand tons to 674.5 thousand tons, driven by the expansion of cultivation in key growing regions like Barabanki. The market volume, however, contracted from 546.9 thousand tons to 501.4 thousand tons over the same period.

In 2020, COVID-19 lockdowns severely disrupted supply chains and dampened demand, pushing the market volume down to 456.3 thousand tons. After restrictions eased, the market recovered to 515.1 thousand tons in 2021 and remained steady at 512.7 thousand tons in 2022, supported by ongoing production expansion and lower edible oil prices that encouraged consumption. By 2023, the market volume reached 551.5 thousand tons.
