Earlier Report Observations
From 2018 to 2019, Russia's uranium ore and concentrate production remained stable, with a slight increase from 2 904 t to 2 911 t. This growth was supported by the opening of a new uranium deposit in the Kurgan region, which began extraction and added to output capacity. State-owned Rosatom continued to control mining through its subsidiaries, employing in-situ leaching technology.
After 2019, production entered a downward trend, falling to 2 846 t in 2020 and further to 2 508 t in 2022. The significant drop in 2022 coincided with international sanctions that restricted enriched uranium exports and affected exploration activities, curtailing mining operations.
Throughout the period, Russia maintained substantial uranium reserves and a developed processing infrastructure. Hydrometallurgical in-situ leaching remained the primary extraction method, ensuring operational continuity despite external challenges.
