Between 2018 and 2020, the market volume for unsaturated acyclic hydrocarbons in Slovakia grew in physical terms from 104.8 thousand tons to 118.1 thousand tons, while its value declined from 114.8 million USD to 95.4 million USD. This period was marked by a steep drop in domestic production, which fell from 2.8 thousand tons to 0.9 thousand tons, coupled with rising imports that peaked at 120.7 thousand tons in 2020, supporting the overall volume increase.

From 2021 onward, import volumes in physical terms began a downward trend, falling from 103.3 thousand tons in 2021 to 73.3 thousand tons in 2023, with export volumes fluctuating significantly. In value terms, imports reached a high of 128.8 million USD in 2021 before declining in the following years.

In 2024, import volume saw a modest recovery to 78.8 thousand tons. This year, Slovakia implemented the EU's methane emission monitoring and reduction rules under the LDAR regulation, effective from August 4, which affected hydrocarbon production and distribution. Furthermore, the updated national energy and climate plan for 2024 reinforced EU energy efficiency requirements, influencing the market for hydrocarbons.

In 2020, Slovakia exported 3.5 thousand tonnes of unsaturated acyclic hydrocarbons, up 5.8% from 2019. The maximum volume was recorded in 2018 at 4.4 thousand tonnes. The largest decline occurred in 2019, falling by 25.7%, while the largest increase was in 2018, surging by 1 755.7%.

From 2017 to 2020, Poland, Serbia, and Germany were consistently the main destinations for exports in kind. Poland accounted for 49.2% of exports, Serbia for 20.8%, and Germany for 13.3%. Together, these three countries represented 83.3% of total export flows.

In 2020, Slovakia's exports of unsaturated acyclic hydrocarbons amounted to 1.8 million US dollars, a sharp decline of 31.6% from 2019. The maximum value was recorded in 2018 at 4.7 million US dollars. The largest drop occurred in 2019, falling by 45.0%, while the largest increase was in 2018, rising by 940.9%.
