The market volume for amine-function compounds in Slovakia showed considerable volatility from 2018 to 2021. Starting at 27 239 t in 2018, it fell sharply to 17 453 t in 2019, then dipped slightly to 16 471 t in 2020. A dramatic recovery occurred in 2021, with volume jumping to 27 732 t, supported by a surge in imports to 27 502 t and a rebound in domestic production to 14 127 t, while exports rose modestly to 13 897 t.

In the following years from 2022 to 2024, import volumes retreated from the 2021 high, declining to 23 306 t in 2022 and 19 360 t in 2023 before a partial recovery to 21 746 t in 2024. Exports, however, continued a steady decline, dropping from 8 127 t in 2022 to 5 458 t in 2023 and 5 248 t in 2024, indicating a significant reduction in Slovakia's export activity for these compounds.

Production of amine-function compounds in Slovakia has declined for the second year in a row. In 2019, Slovakia produced 15 500 tonnes of these compounds, but by 2020, this figure had dropped to 12 303 tonnes, marking a 20.6% decrease. Over the three-year period from 2018 to 2020, production fell by 31.7%, which translates to an average annual decline of 11.9%.

Exports amine-function compounds from Slovakia

Exports in kind, t

Slovakia's exports of amine-function compounds have also decreased for the second consecutive year. In 2019, exports stood at 14 580 tonnes, but in 2020, they dropped to 11 330 tonnes, a significant 22.3% year-over-year decline. From 2017 to 2020, exports fell by 25.6%, with an average annual rate of 9.4%. The peak export volume was recorded in 2018 at 16 494 tonnes, which also saw the largest increase of 8.3% compared to the previous year.

Between 2017 and 2020, Germany, Czechia, and Italy were the top buyers of amine-function compounds from Slovakia. Germany accounted for 29.0% of exports in kind, Czechia for 14.3%, and Italy for 9.0%. Together, these three countries made up 52.2% of Slovakia's total exports in this category.

The value of Slovakia's amine-function compounds exports has declined for the second year in a row. In 2019, exports were valued at 38 400 thousand US dollars, but by 2020, this had fallen to 27 558 thousand US dollars, a 28.2% decrease. From 2017 to 2020, export value dropped by 33.7%, with an average annual decline of 12.8%. The highest value was recorded in 2018 at 48 835 thousand US dollars, which also experienced the largest increase of 17.6% compared to 2017.

In terms of value from 2017 to 2020, Germany, Czechia, and Poland led Slovakia's exports of amine-function compounds. Germany contributed 27.6% of the total export value, Czechia 13.9%, and Poland 9.2%. Combined, these three countries represented 50.7% of Slovakia's total export flows in this sector.

Slovakia's imports of amine-function compounds have decreased for the third consecutive year. In 2019, imports were 16 540 tonnes, but in 2020, they fell to 15 498 tonnes, a modest 6.3% year-over-year decline. Over the period from 2017 to 2020, imports dropped by 52.5%, with an average annual rate of decrease of 22.0%.

From 2017 to 2020, the United Kingdom, Belgium, and Czechia were consistently the main sources of amine-function compounds imports for Slovakia. The United Kingdom accounted for 32.7% of imports in kind, Belgium for 25.9%, and Czechia for 22.2%. Together, these three countries made up 80.8% of Slovakia's total import volume in this category.

In 2019, imports were valued at 28 700 thousand US dollars, but by 2020, this had decreased to 19 504 thousand US dollars, a sharp 32.0% drop compared to the previous year. From 2017 to 2020, import value fell by 63.3%, with an average annual decline of 28.4%.

In value terms from 2017 to 2020, Belgium, the United Kingdom, and Czechia were the primary sources for Slovakia's imports of amine-function compounds. Belgium accounted for 33.2% of the total import value, the United Kingdom for 22.2%, and Czechia for 15.4%. Together, these three countries represented 70.8% of Slovakia's total import flows in this sector.
