Earlier Report Observations

Production of unroasted, not decaffeinated coffee in ASEAN showed consistent growth from 2.6 million tonnes in 2018 to nearly 3 million tonnes by 2022-2023, establishing a solid base for domestic supply. Despite this steady output, the local market volume experienced significant volatility, primarily driven by shifts in export activity. A sharp rise in exports in 2019 reduced the amount available for the regional market, pulling volume down to 1.1 million tonnes.

The market rebounded in the following years but remained influenced by export fluctuations. A substantial decrease in exports in 2023 contributed to a marked expansion of the domestic market, pushing volume to 1.8 million tonnes. Imports played a minor role overall, though they increased in 2024 alongside a recovery in export volumes, underscoring the region's continued strong orientation toward international trade.
