Earlier Report Observations
The ASEAN coffee market volume stood at 1 700 thousand tonnes in 2018. It dropped sharply to 1 055 thousand tonnes in 2019 as exports surged, supported by the promotion of coffee festivals and the development of processing factories which boosted overseas shipments.
Market volume recovered to 1 271 thousand tonnes in 2020, driven by growing domestic demand for specialty coffee and a slight decline in exports. The expansion continued in 2021, reaching 1 437 thousand tonnes, fueled by the rise of coffee shops and consumer preference for premium blends.
After a minor dip to 1 360 thousand tonnes in 2022 due to high coffee prices encouraging exports, the market expanded significantly to 1 770 thousand tonnes in 2023. This growth coincided with the entry of new players and segments, while export volumes eased.
