This expansion was initially supported by the entry of a new domestic producer, MIGAMI, which introduced high-quality and specialty pastas. The range of healthier options, such as egg-free and lentil-based pasta, continued to develop, catering to changing consumer preferences. Demand surged in 2020 as the COVID-19 pandemic led households to stockpile staple foods like pasta.

Market volume fell to 25.5 thousand tonnes in 2021 despite growing consumer interest in gluten-free, legume-based, and artisanal pasta varieties. A regulatory change effective from June 2022, allowing the sale of dry pasta past its best-before date under specific conditions, helped the market recover to 29.2 thousand tonnes that year, alongside a stronger focus on premium quality products like Popradské cestoviny. The market then stabilized around 28.7–30.1 thousand tonnes in 2023–2024, influenced by new transport rules for perishable foods and the ongoing trend toward specialized, healthier pasta options.

Slovakia's uncooked pasta production has increased for the second consecutive year. In 2020, the country produced 14 264 tonnes, showing a moderate rise of 9.8% compared to 2019. Over the period from 2017 to 2020, production grew by 29.1%, equating to an annualized rate of 8.9%. The lowest production level was recorded in 2018 at 10 262 tonnes, which also saw the largest decline of 7.2%. In contrast, the largest increase occurred in 2019 with a 26.6% rise.

From 2017 to 2020, Czechia, Hungary, and the United Kingdom were the core destinations for Slovakia's uncooked pasta exports in kind. Czechia accounted for 39.3% of exports, Hungary for 18.7%, and the United Kingdom for 10.3%. Together, these three countries represented 68.3% of total export flows.
