This period was marked by two pronounced growth phases, in 2020 and 2022, which drove the overall market to significantly higher levels.

Following a period of relative stability in 2021, the market volume surged by nearly 50% in 2022, adding approximately 169 thousand tons. This exceptional increase was followed by a market correction in 2023, with total volume decreasing to 493.7 thousand tons.

Domestic production more than doubled between 2018 and 2022, reaching 93.8 thousand tons, before declining in 2023. Concurrently, import volumes grew strongly, particularly in 2022, which was a major contributor to the record market size that year.

Uncooked pasta exports from Northern Europe rose for the second year in a row. In 2020, the region exported 78,200 tonnes, showing a strong year-on-year increase of 15.7%. From 2017 to 2020, exports grew by 43.5%, with a CAGR of 12.8%. The lowest volume was recorded in 2018 at 52,700 tonnes, which also saw the largest decline of 3.2%. In contrast, the biggest increase occurred in 2019, with a jump of 28.1%.

Northern Europe's uncooked pasta export value increased for the second consecutive year. In 2020, exports totaled $89.7 million, which is 22.1% higher than in 2019. Over the period from 2017 to 2020, export value rose by 47.7%, with a CAGR of 13.9%. The lowest value was in 2018 at $59.8 million, which also experienced the largest decline of 1.5%. The most significant increase was in 2019, with a rise of 22.8%.
