Between 2018 and 2019, the market volume for uncooked pasta in Kyrgyzstan grew from 9 246 t to 12 460 t. This expansion was driven by the approval of the Export Development Program for 2019-2022, which provided support to the food industry, and a moratorium on business inspections effective from January 2019, creating favorable conditions for increased imports and market activity.

Market volume contracted to 8 831 t in 2020 and further to 8 505 t in 2021. The decline was influenced by systemic issues in the food industry, including a shortage of raw materials with required quality characteristics for processing. In 2021, the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted supply chains and demand, while rising prices for flour and other raw materials increased production costs. Temporary state price controls on socially significant food items were introduced to ensure affordability and stabilize the market.

A slight recovery to 8 599 t occurred in 2022, supported by continued price regulation measures and despite currency fluctuations and sanctions affecting trade. In 2023, volume fell to 7 390 t following the zero-rating of VAT on imported wheat and flour, which altered input cost structures, and as consumer preferences shifted amid rising prices for other food products. Government plans to curb price growth on essential goods remained in effect.

In 2021, Kyrgyzstan produced 3,406 tons of uncooked pasta, marking a significant 20.3% decrease from the previous year. Looking at the period from 2018 to 2021, production fell by 23%, with an average annual decline of 8.4%. The most notable increase occurred in 2020, when production rose by 8.5%.

Kyrgyzstan's exports of uncooked pasta have grown for the third year in a row. In 2021, the country exported 456 tons, which represents a 121.5% increase compared to the year before. From 2018 to 2021, exports surged by 393%, with an average annual growth rate of 70.2%.

Between 2018 and 2021, the top buyers of uncooked pasta from Kyrgyzstan were Kazakhstan, accounting for 38.3% of exports in volume, Tajikistan with 22.8%, and Russia at 20.2%. Together, these three countries made up 81.3% of total exports in kind.

Export revenues from uncooked pasta have also risen for the third consecutive year. In 2021, exports reached 249 thousand US dollars, up 107.9% from the previous year. Over the 2018-2021 period, export value increased by 668.4%, with an average annual growth of 97.3%.

From 2018 to 2021, Kazakhstan contributed the most to export value at 42.3%, followed by Russia with 22.7%, and Tajikistan at 18.0%. Combined, these three markets accounted for 83.1% of total export flows in monetary terms.

Import volumes of uncooked pasta into Kyrgyzstan showed an unstable trend during this period. In 2019, imports peaked at 8,686 tons, but then dropped to a low of 4,763 tons in 2020, a 1.8-fold decrease. In 2021, imports rebounded to 5,555 tons, up 16.6% from 2020. The largest decline occurred in 2020, falling by 45.2%, while the biggest increase was in 2019, with a 76.8% rise.
