Earlier Report Observations

From 2018 to 2020, the passenger car tyre market in Russia showed significant fluctuations. In 2018, market volume reached 47.2 million units, supported by production localization and rising domestic demand. However, in 2019, demand volatility and broader economic changes led to an 8.1% drop in production and a market contraction to 45.3 million units. The COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 caused a sharp 19% decline to 36.8 million units, driven by reduced industrial activity and a global automotive downturn.

The subsequent period was marked by recovery and structural shifts. In 2021, the market rebounded by 26% to 46.2 million units, fueled by a surge in demand for both summer and winter tyres and increased imports from China. Sanctions and currency fluctuations in 2022, however, led to a 25% market drop to 34.5 million units, despite the growing share of Chinese tyres. The market recovered to 38.8 million units in 2023, as domestic production rose by 13% and consumer preference for crossover and SUV tyres remained strong, accompanied by a 5% decrease in average prices.

In 2024, market volume expanded sharply by 43% to 55.7 million units, the highest level in the observed period, with production increasing to 35.4 million units. By 2025, production declined to 28.1 million units, indicating a market adjustment following the prior surge.
