Earlier Report Observations

From 2018 to 2023, the Asian turkey meat market experienced a shift where overall volume declined from 220 thousand tons to 190.4 thousand tons, after reaching a high of 221.7 thousand tons in 2020. In value terms, the market grew from $898.3 million to over $1 billion by 2022, before a slight moderation to $1,019.7 million in 2023. This divergence indicates changing price levels and product mix, even as physical consumption contracted.

Domestic production in Asia fell from 182.3 thousand tons in 2018 to a low of 154.2 thousand tons in 2021, before a modest recovery. Imports surged to 77.9 thousand tons in 2020, providing a temporary boost to supply, but subsequently fell below 50 thousand tons. Export volumes also declined after 2019 before resuming growth from 2022 onwards.

In 2024, import volumes rose to 45.0 thousand tons, a change supported by a sharp increase in shipments from Russia. With China sourcing nearly all its turkey meat from Russia, a reported 72% surge in Russian exports directly expanded the supply available to the Asian market.
