Earlier Report Observations

The goose meat and offal market in Asia expanded strongly from 2018, driven by state-led industry support and standardization of livestock farming. Production rose from 2 808 thousand tons in 2018 to 4 055 thousand tons in 2019 as authorities promoted scale, efficiency, and green development. In 2020, the African swine fever outbreak reshaped meat consumption patterns, boosting demand for goose meat as a substitute and lifting production to 4 254 thousand tons.

Growth moderated in 2021 to 4 297 thousand tons amid local environmental plans that encouraged sustainable farming while consumer interest in healthy food provided a demand base. A pronounced acceleration followed in 2022, with output reaching 4 780 thousand tons after the city of Nenjiang rapidly scaled up goose breeding, offering subsidies, credit discounts, and insurance support under a 'company + base + farmers + market + brand' model. The momentum continued into 2023, when production climbed to 5 109 thousand tons as the China Animal Agriculture Association released a five-year development plan emphasizing technological innovation and consumption upgrading.

In 2024, policy backing remained robust with Heilongjiang province introducing the 'Goose Ten Points' package, covering breeding, slaughter subsidies, insurance, loan interest discounts, and processing investment rewards. These measures, alongside continued fiscal support in Nenjiang and a focus on feed supply optimization, aimed to further upgrade the industry's structure and product quality.
