The French triticale market began the period with growing adoption in animal feed due to the crop's drought tolerance and lower input requirements, supporting production growth. This foundation, coupled with increasing exports to other European countries, contributed to market expansion in 2019. The following year, however, saw the market contract as production volumes fell.

A sharp reversal occurred in 2021 when high prices for traditional feed grains like wheat and barley led livestock feed manufacturers to significantly increase their use of triticale, raising its share in compound feed production to an unprecedented 6.9%. This surge in domestic consumption drove the market to a peak. In 2022, the market volume decreased as a substantial portion of the harvest was diverted to strong export flows, primarily to Spain, coinciding with lower crop yields. By 2023, the market stabilized aided by the registration of several new, more productive triticale varieties and the adoption of optimized nitrogen management practices in cultivation.

In 2024, the organic triticale segment experienced a severe downturn, with the harvest halving due to reduced planted area and challenging growing conditions, highlighting specific pressures within niche production while the conventional market remained supported by its role in animal nutrition.

In 2020, the output was valued at 265.0 million US dollars, reflecting a significant drop of 21.1% from the previous year. The highest value was recorded in 2019 at 335.8 million US dollars, which also saw the largest increase of 12.6%.

From 2017 to 2020, Spain, Italy, and the Netherlands were the primary buyers of triticale from France, accounting for 39.8%, 20.6%, and 18.7% of exports in kind, respectively. Together, they represented 79.2% of total exports in kind.

After two years of improvement, France's triticale export value declined. In 2020, exports totaled 11,996 thousand US dollars, showing a modest reduction of 4.3% from the previous year. Over the 2017-2020 period, exports increased by 11.4%, with an annualized growth rate of 3.7%. The highest value was recorded in 2019 at 12,530 thousand US dollars, which also saw the largest increase of 14.6%.
