After reaching a peak in 2020, market volume fell to 1 281 thousand tonnes in 2021, then rebounded to 1 536 thousand tonnes in 2022. During these years, new product segments emerged and sustainable agricultural practices gained attention, while the industry also faced tighter labeling and traceability regulations introduced in 2022.

In 2023, the market contracted to 1 417 thousand tonnes. State-owned companies increased their investments and opened large production facilities, and consumer demand continued to shift towards organic and sustainable treenuts. Additionally, new legislation on labeling and import-export policies was implemented, influencing market conditions.

Treenuts production in Turkey increased for the second consecutive year. In 2020, the output was valued at 10,397 million US dollars, reflecting a notable uptick of 22.3% year-over-year. Between 2017 and 2020, production grew by 38.9%, equating to an annualized rate of 11.6%. The lowest value was recorded in 2018 at 6,995 million US dollars, which also saw the largest decline of 6.5%.

Exports treenuts to Turkey

In 2020, Turkey exported 222.6 thousand tonnes of treenuts, representing a significant decrease of 14.8% compared to 2019. The minimum export volume was recorded in 2018 at 219.0 thousand tonnes, while the maximum was in 2019 at 261.2 thousand tonnes, which also saw the largest increase of 19.3%.
