From 2018 to 2021, the tomato market volume in Kazakhstan increased from 807 thousand tons to 845 thousand tons. This expansion was primarily driven by sustained state support for vegetable growing, which encouraged the development of greenhouse farming and the introduction of new tomato varieties better adapted to the local climate. Investments from both state-owned and private companies into greenhouse complexes further boosted domestic production, even as some growers diversified into other crops like cucumbers. The COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 temporarily disrupted logistics and supply chains, contributing to a slight stabilization in market volume that year.

Market volume continued to grow in 2022, reaching 852 thousand tons, but this was largely due to a rise in imports as domestic production declined.
