Earlier Report Observations

From 2018 to 2023, the market volume for fresh or chilled tomatoes in Egypt fluctuated, peaking at 7.1 million tons in 2023. After a stable period around 6.7–6.8 million tons in 2018–2019, the market contracted to 6.5 million tons in 2020 and saw slight declines to 6.3 million tons by 2022. A sharp 11.7% rebound in 2023 lifted the market volume above previous levels.

In 2024, Egypt's tomato production surpassed 6.7 million tons annually, reinforcing its role as a strategic crop. The Ministry of Agriculture organized workshops to enhance product quality and export compliance, while climate variability, including frost waves, and rising energy costs impacted production expenses and consumer prices.
