Earlier Report Observations
From 2018 to 2021, the fresh tomato market in Bosnia and Herzegovina showed steady growth, with total volume increasing from 62 467 t to 70 548 t. Domestic production rose from 43 918 t to 52 892 t over this period, while imports fluctuated between 18 554 t and 22 960 t annually.
In 2022, the market volume contracted sharply to 56 659 t, driven primarily by an outbreak of late blight (Phytophthora infestans) in Posavina Canton, which damaged tomato crops and reduced domestic output. That same year, construction began on a new food processing plant in Kruševo near Mostar, aimed at increasing tomato processing capacity. By 2023, the market rebounded strongly to 71 237 t, as production recovered from the disease impact.
