African taro production demonstrated consistent growth from 2018 to 2021, increasing from 13 887 thousand tons to 15 160 thousand tons. The most notable expansion occurred in 2020, when output rose by over 5% to reach 14 757 thousand tons.

Following the peak in 2021, production volume contracted by 4.6% to 14 467 thousand tons in 2022. The market then stabilized in 2023, recording a slight uptick to 14 491 thousand tons.

Africa's taro production has now grown for three consecutive years. In 2020, the continent produced 14 757 thousand tonnes of taro, marking a modest 5.4% increase compared to the previous year. Looking at the broader period from 2017 to 2020, production rose by 10.9% overall, which translates to an average annual growth rate of 3.5%.
