Earlier Report Observations

The Greek market for sweetened or flavoured mineral and aerated waters expanded from 468.1 million liters in 2018 to 510.3 million liters in 2019. This growth coincided with HITOS ABEE strengthening the presence of its ZAGORI brand in domestic and international markets. In 2019, the company's participation in the ANUGA trade fair and the launch of new carbonated products with natural lemon and green apple flavours further stimulated market activity.

Market volume contracted to 400.1 million liters in 2020. During this period, HITOS ABEE focused on sustainability, launching the ZAGORI GO GREEN line with packaging made from 30% recycled plastic. A strong recovery followed in 2021, with the market reaching 531.6 million liters, supported by initiatives to boost tourism, including the distribution of free ZAGORI water at archaeological sites.

Growth continued in 2022, with the market reaching 579.0 million liters, supported by significant capacity expansion as the municipal company Xyno Nero invested in a new, state-of-the-art production facility. The market rose further to 592.2 million liters in 2023, driven by the entry of a major new player, Vergina, which launched the TuVunu bottled water brand and invested over €20 million in new bottling lines and logistics automation.
