From 2018 to 2021, the sweet potato market volume in Bangladesh showed a fluctuating trend. This increase was sustained by the introduction of salt-tolerant sweet potato varieties, aimed at boosting productivity and addressing climate change impacts in southern Bangladesh. By 2023, the market stabilized at 303.7 thousand tons. This plateau coincided with stabilized yields and was indirectly influenced by government measures to control prices in the common potato market, including import tariff reductions and cold storage monitoring, which affected broader vegetable market dynamics.

Emerging influences in 2024 included rising consumer health awareness strengthening demand for fresh sweet potatoes and the growth of the frozen food market, which increased interest in processed sweet potato products. Furthermore, the development of biodegradable packaging materials from sweet potato starch highlighted new industrial applications. Ongoing climate change and soil salinization challenges continued to promote sweet potato as a resilient crop alternative in the country's agricultural system.
