This growth was initially supported by the spread of modern extraction technology, which increased oilcake yield by 20%. In 2019, genetic improvements and optimized agronomic practices, such as sowing time and plant density, enhanced sunflower oil content, further supporting production.

Market volume fluctuated between 2021 and 2023, falling to 428 thousand tons in 2021 before a slight recovery to 451 thousand tons in 2022 and a drop to 381 thousand tons in 2023. The introduction of herbicide-tolerant sunflower hybrids in 2022 created new production opportunities despite lower average yields. Severe drought and heat waves in 2023 damaged sunflower crops, leading to supply shortages and higher prices that reduced domestic consumption.

In 2024, the market surged to 607 thousand tons. International demand and supply constraints drove prices higher, while the growing adoption of high-oleic acid sunflower hybrids met market expectations for stable quality. Government price margin regulations, ongoing since 2022, also influenced trading conditions on the related sunflower oil market.
