The market experienced earlier fluctuations, declining to 97 thousand tons in 2019, rising to 105 thousand tons in 2020, and then falling to 94 thousand tons in 2021. By 2023, the market volume had decreased to 104 thousand tons, marking a 16% contraction from the 2022 high.

In 2024, a significant development was the opening of a new oil mill in Ennsdorf with a capacity to process up to 100 thousand tons of bio-oilseeds, including sunflower, which expanded the country's domestic crushing potential for oilcake.
