The introduction of new strawberry varieties like AAC Kate, Audrey, and Evelyn in 2018 broadened the genetic diversity and quality available to Canadian growers. Market volume, however, declined to 122.5 thousand tonnes in 2019, influenced by lower import levels, before stabilizing around 123.6 thousand tonnes in 2020 as the sector began officially tracking greenhouse production—a move toward controlled-environment agriculture to extend seasons and improve fruit quality.

Adoption of soilless and sheltered cultivation techniques from 2021 onward, alongside a rise in organic strawberry farming in Quebec, aimed at enhancing yield efficiency and meeting niche demand. Promotional events for local berries in 2022 helped maintain consumer interest. These developments were offset in 2023 when waterlogged soil across Quebec hampered commercial harvests, contributing to a market volume drop to 124.5 thousand tonnes.

Production rebounded sharply to 25.9 thousand tonnes in 2024, the highest since 2019, driven by a mild spring and significant expansion in greenhouse area. Vertical farming operator La Ferme d’Hiver quadrupled its output, aiming to supply strawberries year-round and reduce reliance on imports. Despite heightened competition from low-priced California strawberries, the overall supply volume approached pre‑2018 levels.
