Earlier Report Observations

The starch market in Northern Europe expanded steadily from 1 372 thousand tons in 2018 to a peak of 1 890 thousand tons in 2021, driven primarily by a sharp increase in domestic production, which rose by over 550 thousand tons during this period.

After 2021, the market entered a contraction phase, with volume falling to 1 620 thousand tons in 2022 and further to 1 405 thousand tons in 2023. This decline was accompanied by reductions in both production and import volumes, signaling a broad-based market adjustment.
