The starch market in Slovenia grew from 20 129 tons in 2018 to 24 024 tons in 2023, an increase of 19%. This growth was not linear, however: after a jump to 22 339 tons in 2019, the market contracted in 2020 before rebounding strongly in 2021 and then stabilizing with modest gains in 2022 and 2023.

Import volumes played a key role in shaping market size, rising from 6 564 tons in 2018 to 11 098 tons in 2023 despite some year-to-year fluctuations. Domestic production remained relatively steady, ranging between 13 000 and 14 000 tons, with a notable uptick to 14 314 tons in 2023. Exports, while small, increased in 2023, partially offsetting the growth in available supply.
