The market for fresh or chilled spinach in Brunei Darussalam underwent considerable changes between 2018 and 2023. Starting from a volume of 938 t in 2018, the market contracted sharply to 658 t in 2019 and further to 592 t in 2020. This period coincided with a steep decline in domestic production, which fell from 908 t to 528 t over the same two years.

From 2021 onward, the market showed signs of stabilization and recovery. Volume reached 615 t in 2021, dipped slightly to 584 t in 2022, then rose significantly to 727 t in 2023. The 2023 increase was supported by a rebound in production to 650 t, while import volumes, after peaking at 119 t in 2021, settled at 78 t in 2023.
