Senegal's grain sorghum production showed significant swings between 2018 and 2020. The market volume began at 295.5 thousand tons in 2018, then declined to 270.2 thousand tons in 2019, reflecting the broader trend of stagnant cereal output reported for the country. After the 2020 peak, output adjusted to 352.5 thousand tons in 2021 before increasing to 363.2 thousand tons in 2022 and stabilizing at 364.6 thousand tons in 2023. The steady production level in 2023 aligned with the state's subsidy program for certified sorghum seeds, which reduced input costs for farmers. This period also saw rising private investment in agricultural equipment and irrigation infrastructure, particularly in the key Senegal River Valley growing area, supporting overall productivity.
