Concurrently, an analysis by ABB of over 2,000 industrial motors identified a potential 31% energy saving, highlighting the upgrade potential within the existing stock. These factors coincided with a further contraction of the market to 262.5 thousand units in 2023, with its value falling to 6.7 million USD.

In 2024, the market continued to adapt to new EU requirements, including the mandatory IE4 class for certain motors, requiring adjustment from manufacturers and users. The electric vehicle segment, a relevant market for motors, saw new brands establishing themselves in Sweden, while Volvo launched new electric motors, driving innovation. ABB entered a collaboration with Stena Recycling for circular management of motors, responding to increased sustainability demands. Simultaneously, a revision of the electricity market regulation aimed to improve flexibility and support for renewable energy, impacting the industry's power supply. Reflecting these dynamics, imports of motors recovered to 474.3 thousand units, while exports surged sharply to 283.5 thousand units.

The largest year-on-year decline occurred in 2019, falling by 25.1%, whereas the largest increase was in 2018, rising by 15.5%.

From 2017 to 2020, Poland, Norway, and Denmark were the top destinations for Sweden's single-phase AC motor exports in terms of volume. Poland accounted for 30.1% of exports, Norway for 26.5%, and Denmark for 8.6%. Together, these three countries represented 65.2% of Sweden's total export flows during this period.
