This decline coincided with updated EU regulations from July 2023, which tightened efficiency requirements for three-phase motors and were accompanied by a significant 50% increase in motor prices over the preceding four years due to higher production costs. By 2024, the market recovered to 20 182 thousand units as major Italian manufacturers like Elektropol Cantoni, CME Motori, and Mosca Motori expanded their offerings of high-efficiency motors and introduced technological innovations such as models with integrated inverters and designs for ATEX zones.

The largest drop occurred in 2019, at 21.9%, while the biggest increase was in 2018, at 2.7%.
