From 2018 to 2023, the market volume for sheep and goat meat in Bahrain fluctuated between 62 000 t and 68 000 t. After reaching 68 268 t in 2019, the market contracted to 62 979 t in 2020. It then stabilized around 62 000 t in 2021 before recovering to 65 675 t in 2022 and easing slightly to 64 703 t in 2023. In value terms, the market fell sharply to 448.8 million USD in 2020 from 629.7 million USD the previous year, reflecting lower prices or a shift in product mix.

In 2024, meat imports rose sharply to 10 756 t, up from 7 239 t in 2023. This increase was facilitated by the entry of new companies importing chilled and frozen meat, as well as the issuance of 250 additional import permits by the Ministry of Municipalities and Agriculture during Ramadan to meet demand. Concurrently, the government implemented Resolution No. (141) of 2024, which sets technical and environmental requirements for licensing animal production facilities, aiming to enhance Bahrain's role as a livestock trade hub.

In 2020, Bahrain produced 54 609 tons of sheep and goat meat, marking an 8.3% decrease from the previous year. From 2017 to 2020, production fell by 7.4%, which translates to an average annual decline of 2.5%. The highest production level was recorded in 2019 at 59 550 tons, with the largest year-on-year increase of 7.6% occurring that same year.

The value of sheep and goat meat production in Bahrain reached 403.5 million US dollars in 2020, reflecting a sharp drop of 30.3% compared to the previous year. Over the period from 2017 to 2020, production value declined by 41.1%, averaging an annual decrease of 16.2%. The most significant increase was observed in 2019, with an 8.6% rise.

Following two years of decline, Bahrain's sheep and goat meat exports rebounded in 2020, totaling 35 tons—an 8.3% increase year-on-year. However, from 2017 to 2020, exports overall decreased by 34.3%, equating to an average annual decline of 13.1%. The lowest export volume was recorded in 2019 at 32 tons, with the steepest drop of 35.0% occurring in 2018.

Between 2017 and 2020, the United States, Free Zones, and Djibouti were the key destinations for Bahrain's sheep and goat meat exports in volume terms. The United States accounted for 33.7% of exports, Free Zones for 15.1%, and Djibouti for 11.8%. Together, these three markets represented 60.6% of total export flows.
