Armenia's sheep and goat meat market volume grew from 19 366 tonnes in 2018 to 21 655 tonnes in 2020, an 11.8% increase over two years. The market expanded by 4.3% in 2019 and a further 7.3% in 2020.

After peaking in 2020, the market volume stabilized, remaining around 21 600 tonnes through 2022 with negligible annual changes. In 2023, volume dipped to 21 221 tonnes, a 1.8% decrease from the previous year.

In value terms, the market showed sharper movements. Market value rose from 120.9 million US dollars in 2018 to 162.6 million US dollars in 2022, then fell to 135.7 million US dollars in 2023, reflecting volatility in prices or market structure independent of volume trends.

After two years of decline, Armenia's sheep and goat meat production has rebounded. In 2020, the country produced 21 659 tons of sheep and goat meat, representing a modest 0.9% increase from the previous year. The lowest production level was recorded in 2019 at 21 459 tons, while the most significant decline occurred in 2018 with a 1.9% drop.

Following two years of growth, the value of sheep and goat meat production in Armenia declined in 2020. Output was valued at 124.8 million US dollars, marking a 10.3% decrease compared to 2019. Over the 2017-2020 period, production value increased by 3.2%, with an average annual growth rate of 1.1%. The peak value was reached in 2019 at 139.2 million US dollars, while the strongest growth occurred in 2018 with an 11.8% increase.

Imports in 2020 reached approximately 2 tons, representing a substantial 321.6% increase from 2019. The lowest import volume was recorded in 2019 at just 0.4 tons, while the most significant decline occurred that same year with a 56.8% drop. The difference between the peak in 2020 and the trough in 2019 amounted to a 4.2-fold variation.

Between 2017 and 2020, Russia and New Zealand together accounted for 89.5% of Armenia's sheep and goat meat imports by volume. Russia represented 54.0% of total imports, while New Zealand contributed 35.5%, with other partners making up the remainder.
